Awardee of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund Scholarship Scheme 2017-18
Heidi Yu is a dance science educator, researcher and professional ballet dancer. Currently, she is a Lecturer of Dance Science at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA).
Her interest in applying scientific approach to dance training has driven her to study a Master of Fine Arts in Dance at the HKAPA, and after its completion (2017), a Master of Science in Dance Science at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London (2018), the world's leading institution for Dance Science.
As a dancer, she underwent rigorous ballet training in professional arts school. She joined the Houston Ballet, performed in several productions and toured with the company across North and Central America. She was also engaged in contemporary dance productions in Hong Kong, where she started to develop her teaching career at the same time.
Inspired by her training and professional experience in different roles of the dance industry, promoting a holistic approach to a healthy dance practice has been the aim of Heidi's teaching in recent years, as she believes in dancers as "artistic athletes".
